2021 IJIS Mid-Year Briefing: Justice Reform - Change is Happening

Though the world seems to be nearing the corner related to controlling the pandemic, the effects have been traumatic and will be long-standing. What remains plaguing our communities and society at-large is the need for criminal justice reform. Regardless of what side of the aisle that your perspective may come from, those involved in the broader justice community understand well that improvements in efficiency, parity in the application of the law, and/or equity in sentencing and support services are woefully in need of repair. Though there is no one single fix, the IJIS community stands ready to support the greater cause and the mission of justice reform.

As a mechanism to provide support in this time of assessment and charting the path forward, our Mid-Year Briefing (MYB) will focus on justice reform and how we can contribute to improvements over time. Our theme is as follows: Justice Reform – Change is Happening: The Priorities, Policy and Operational Considerations. Seeking to provide a wide array of perspectives on the national, state and local levels, we have assembled a variety of speakers that represent national leaders with visibility to current priorities, justice practitioners across the spectrum, and partner organizations that represent different constituencies including membership groups, research partners and academia. Our goal is to address the many flavors of improvement, while supporting the day-to-day mission effectively.
