4th Advanced Materials for Defense Summit

DSI’s 4th Annual Advanced Materials for Defense Summit will focus on integrating advanced materials and manufacturing processes to positively enhance the operational effectiveness of military applications by increasing the durability and survivability, reducing the weight, and improving the sustainability of weapons, equipment, and platforms. The 2021 Summit will bring together speakers from the DoD Labs, military, and academia to discuss how to continually implement modernized technological solutions to deliver advanced materials science and manufacturing processes for increased functionality, efficiency, strength, and operational readiness.

As near-peer adversaries gain capabilities in cutting-edge weapons and platforms, the need for materials science research and engineering grows. Attendees at the event will have the unique opportunity to discuss the continued need to engineer and integrate advanced materials to maintain an operational advantage on the battlefield. Speakers will address the vitality of maximizing the sustainability and readiness and of improving the size, weight, and power (SWaP) of defense weapons, uniforms, and vehicles. The agenda will address specific topics including developing advanced materials to withstand extreme environments, reducing U.S. dependency on foreign Rare Earth Elements, ensuring a healthy industrial base, and facilitating the logistics of advanced materials to ensure combat readiness. This year’s panel will discuss the constant challenges of preventing and protecting material from corrosion to improve the life cycle sustainability and reduce maintenance costs.
