Surface Warfare Summit

On November 16th 2012, the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission released its annual report to Congress reviewing topics including China’s military developments. The report states: “In order to defeat a superior opponent, the Area Control Strategy emphasizes degrading an opponent’s technological advantages; striking first in a conflict, and establishing military control over China’s periphery, especially the maritime region off of China’s eastern coast.”

As tensions continue to rise in the Pacific, the US has chosen to sustain and modernize its Navy.

The Department of Defense has determined the US Navy must maintain an adequate balance among all classes of ships to ensure it can effectively execute its responsibilities. The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012, which outlines DoD funding priorities was passed this December 1st and grants the Navy $15 billion towards fleet transformation. This funding is evidence that the initiative has been made a top priority and covers construction of various types and classes of ships including aircraft carriers, amphibious ships, and surface combatants of various sizes.

IDGA’s Surface Warfare Summit will explore the latest news and advancements in technologies that increase warship self-defense and survivability. It will also take a closer look at the process of delivering a cost-effective surface combatant fleet that can operate within diverse threat environment sets.

Don’t miss the best opportunity of the year to:

  • Address concerns relevant to the DoD 30-Year Shipbuilding Plan and the Air-Sea Battle Concept
  • Identify opportunities for industry to provide the best surface warship solutions with a range of capabilities across the full spectrum of naval threats and crises
  • Discuss requirements and modifications that allow surface warships to sustain and adapt
  • Look at transforming strategies that support modern sea control and interdiction objectives
  • Delve into interagency cooperation: DoD, DoS and DHS
