Making the Interactive Process Work: Reasonable Accommodation Guidance

Reasonable accommodation is the new focus in disability law, and agencies will have to spend more time dealing with it day to day. Make sure every agency decision-maker involved in the interactive process is comfortable with carrying out the steps needed to successfully address accommodation issues – and ultimately avoid disability-based liability.

With real-world experience gained from working in the trenches of federal HR, presenter Sarah Tuck will give you all the background information you need:

  • A brief overview of the ADAAA, focusing on what managers
    need to know
  • How the increased coverage under the ADAAA could impact
agency budgets and what you can do to minimize the effects
  • Where the breakdown in legal compliance with the ADAAA
    usually happens

Plus, you’ll learn to navigate the process from start to finish with clear guidance to:

  • Recognize even the most subtle requests for reasonable
accommodation and signals not to ignore
  • Identify essential functions of positions and possible
    accommodation options
  • Determine if a person is a qualified individual with a
    disability
  • Distinguish between a qualified individual with a disability
    and undue hardship
