The Urgency of Data Sharing in Transforming Child Welfare



Traditionally, by the time a family becomes known to a child welfare agency, they are already in crisis. The Family First Prevention Services Act, was a good start in allowing funding for prevention services to be provided to a family in need, but it is not enough. Preventing crisis requires cross programmatic service delivery models that include a vast array of programs, providers and other community partners in health and human services. 

 

It is vital for HHS agencies and their partner organizations to work quickly on improving their data sharing and data integration strategies to better serve families in their homes and in their communities. By optimizing their use of data now, these agencies can respond to the needs of their constituents quickly and at scale, before crisis occurs.
