Hidden Disabilities: Accommodating Employees in the Federal Workplace
Diabetes, fibromyalgia and asthma might not have obvious symptoms, but they – and other “invisible” conditions – are still disabilities, and if your agency doesn’t address them properly you face potential EEO complaints.
Here’s your only chance to hear firsthand guidance from the EEOC’s Kendra Duckworth, a federal practitioner with 20 years experience providing accommodation solutions, specifically for employees with hidden disabilities.
Ms. Duckworth will fill the information “black hole” created by the ADA Amendments Act’s broadened definition of disability by explaining how far protections now extend and how the changes impact your agency’s response. With her expert guidance you will:
- Become familiar with hidden disabilities common in the workplace, such as epilepsy and depression
- Be able to generate ideas about how to address and accommodate whatever hidden disabilities employees present
- Implement effective accommodation procedures, such as modifying methods for carrying out a job and obtaining equipment that addresses a specific limitation
- Understand when and what medical documentation can be requested in connection with a non-obvious disability
- Move your agency toward reaching diversity and inclusion goals by attracting and keeping qualified employees with disabilities through successful accommodation
This one-time event won’t be repeated or recorded. July 17 is your only chance to hear Ms. Duckworth’s guidance and to get her answers to your questions during Q&A breaks!
