The New EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework: What You Need to Know and Practical Considerations

This event qualifies for 1 CLE

On July 10, 2023, after years of negotiations between the European Commission and the United States government, the long-awaited, latest data protection adequacy decision for the U.S. was announced and took immediate effect—in the form of the new EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

This means that U.S. companies may now self-certify their adherence to the new Framework’s Principles to lawfully receive EU data subjects’ personal data for processing in the U.S. (or else must use another lawful transfer mechanism set forth in the EU GDPR).

Join specialists from Greenberg Traurig’s Data Privacy & Cybersecurity team on August 15th as they present this 1-hour, CLE-eligible webinar, “The New EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework: What You Need to Know and Practical Considerations.”

Topics covered during the session will include the latest on:

  • The effects, contractual implications and likely challenges to the U.S.’s adequacy decision;
  • What the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework means for former Privacy Shield participants and U.S. companies considering participation now;
  • Current and next steps for U.K. and Swiss personal data exports to the U.S.; and
  • An overview of the DPF Principles, possible enforcement priorities, and official “frequently asked questions” released to this point.
