MOAA/NDIA Warrior-Family Symposium

The 2012 Warrior-Family Symposium (WFS), co-sponsored by the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), will provide a forum for expanding on the collective efforts of government and non-government organizations, over the last decade, to improve the physical, psychological and overall well-being of wounded warriors and their families.

This year’s program features incredible stories, told by our Nation’s wounded warriors and their family members and caregivers, recounting their diverse experiences, challenges and triumphs during their road to recovery and transition.  These first-hand accounts are designed to provide an overall awareness of their needs and, subsequently, lead to the further enhancement and refinement of programs and services that will benefit wounded warriors and their families.  Important and relevant transition topics such as medical-disability benefits, care coordination, family-caregiver support, and employment-transition services will be discussed.

With the Symposium date scheduled just two days after September 11, we are presented with a poignant reminder of the many sacrifices our wounded warriors and their families have made since that fateful event. The day will culminate in a special Wounded Heroes Recognition Reception, honoring and celebrating the service and sacrifice of all those wounded and disabled over the last decade, thanking them and family members on behalf of a grateful Nation.  The Recognition event will highlight some of the many wounded warriors who have achieved significant milestones in their lives and recognize a few organizations that provide examples of effective public-private partnership models for helping our heroes and families during difficult times of transition.
