Women Leadership in Government & State Owned Enterprises

Women in Government and SOE’s will gather on 1 & 2 November 2023 during a 2-day Leadership conference in Cape Town - Somerset West.  Speakers include: Ministry, Parliament and Top Performing Municipalities and Government Entities.  The conference calls on women in National, Provincial and Local Government to step-up and lead with accountability. Register before 2 October at info@pinpointstewards.co.za or go to the pinpointstewards website.  Be part of the biggest Women & Leadership event in the Western Cape with the theme, It's DUE - Develop, Unite & Empower.  The conference focuses on leadership instead of political agendas to ensure more women move into top positions within Government.

“More than half (51,1%) of the South African population are female[1] and, according to the General Household Survey (GHS) 2021, more than two-fifths (42,0%) of households are headed by females...The findings show that from 2004 to 2019, South Africa saw an increase in the proportion of seats held by women in parliament, from 33,0% in 2004 to 46,0% in 2019. However, a regress was observed in premier positions from a peak of 55,0% in 2009, decreasing to 22,0% in 2014 and 2019 respectively.

Findings from local government showed that, nationally, males were more likely to hold mayoral positions than females (68,0% vs 32,0%). The North West was the only municipality that reached parity regarding mayoral positions. Western Cape and Gauteng had the lowest representation of female mayors.  Females constituted 40,9% of the municipal councillors in the country while the lowest representation of female councillors was observed in Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

Despite some progress, more still needs to be done in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality by 2030.”Read more: https://www.statssa.gov.za/?p=15833
