Industry Insider California Member Briefing with L.A. County

This is an in-person exclusive briefing for Industry Insider – California members to hear from IT leaders of the County of Los Angeles (LA County). LA County is the largest county in the US by population and has an overall annual budget of over $47 billion and an estimated IT budget of over $940 million. As a subdivision of the state, LA County is charged with providing numerous services that affect the lives of all residents, including law enforcement, tax collection, public health protection, public social services, elections and flood control. The County of Los Angeles is comprised of 37 departments and over 120,000 employees supporting over 10 million constituents in 88 cities. The following departments will be represented:

 

The Department of Public Health (DPH) protects health, prevents disease, and promotes the health and well-being for all persons in Los Angeles County. Its focus is on the population as a whole and conducts its activities through a variety of programs, community partnerships, and services. DPH is one of the largest public health departments in the nation and is nationally accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board. The department has an annual budget exceeding $2 billion and a staff of over 5,500. Learn more here.

 

The Office of the Public Defender is a law office established and funded by the County of Los Angeles. The attorneys and other staff employed by the office render legal services to individuals who are accused of public offenses, and who cannot afford to retain the services of a private attorney. We also represent any person under the age of 18 who is facing juvenile delinquency proceedings. There are 32 office locations throughout the county. Integral to supporting the department’s mission is a team of more than 1,200 employees - including more than 700 attorneys, as well as paralegals, investigators, psychiatric social workers, and administrative/support staff. The Department of Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) is responsible for registering voters, maintaining voter files, administering federal, state, local and special elections and verifying initiatives, referendums and recall petitions. LA County is the largest and most complex county election jurisdiction in the country with over 5.8 million registered voters. The Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk also records real property documents; maintains vital records of births, deaths and marriages, oversees countywide records management, business filings and other documents.
