Tech 101: Generative AI
Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence technology that can produce various types of content, including text, imagery, audio and synthetic data. It can be thought of as a machine-learning model that is trained to create new data, rather than making a prediction about a specific dataset. A generative AI system is one that learns to generate more objects that look like the data it was trained on, with the potential to revolutionize various aspects of the defense industry, from enhancing decision-making processes to streamlining logistics and supply chain management. Moreover, Generative AI can be applied to tasks such as predictive maintenance of military equipment, optimizing resource allocation, and even assisting in the development of new technologies and systems. This presentation will discuss the basics of Generative AI technology, explain why Generative AI is important to the Department of Defense (DoD), and describe ongoing activities to integrate Generative AI into processes, warfighter operations, and technology development.
