Decoding Digitalization Defense: Friend of Foe

The adoption and implementation of digitalisation is well underway in most of society, with defence organisations at various stages of the transition. However, are any of them losing out due to the speed of adoption? Given the “new normal” in warfare we are witnessing in Ukraine, what is their plan to create and maintain information superiority without digitalisation?

Defence agencies’ traditional working practices are battle proven, but they often operate independently – creating silos that hinder information sharing and collaboration. Digital transformation creates a connected environment, where intelligence can be shared digitally, in real time, across all domains and with allies and partners.  

Is it imperative to embrace digitalisation to realise “need to share” principles? What are the real benefits of adopting digitalisation in defence and what is the guarantee that the new way of working will not lead to a decline in productivity or pose additional threats? Are the effort and upheaval of peoples’ working habits worthwhile? Are the differences and related procedural changes between digitisation and digitalisation well understood? Is the ultimate goal of having digital twins, or digital reality, of the defence world attainable and beneficial?

A panel of defence personnel and industry experts will discuss all these questions and more, examining the justification for digitalisation of defence, as well as potential obstacles.
