Records Management Presidential Directive: Jump Starting Your Agency’s Response Training Seminar

This event qualifies for TBD CEUs

The Presidential Directive on Managing Government Records issued on August 24, 2012, begins an ambitious effort to “reform records management practices and policies and to develop a 21st-century framework for the management of Government records."  The Directive lays out two overarching goals - electronic records management and compliance with statutes and regulations - with seven specific targets to be completed between now and December 31, 2019.  Achieving compliance with the Directive will take a concerted, agency-wide effort led by a Senior Agency Official (SAO) who is accountable for ensuring that the targets are met.  The question many are asking is how to get started when the tasks are formidable and resources are scarce.  Yet no matter how daunting the Directive appears, the right strategies and planning exercises can simplify timely compliance, reduce costs, and generate sustainable support.

This course guides participants through six key strategies records officers and other agency staff should use to jump start their agency response to the Directive and its targets.

  1. Clearly understand the Presidential Records Management Directive's specific requirements and implications for your agency.
  2. Integrate those requirements into your agency’s existing priorities.
  3. Leverage existing and planned initiatives and resources.
  4. Manage directive response as a program and develop a multi-year action plan.
  5. Build a powerful coalition of support.
  6. Use Presidential Records Management Directive response and process as a platform to help build your future records management program.
