Re-Thinking Operations & Maintenance for High Performance Buildings

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) will host a live First Thursday Seminar webcast on Rethinking Operations & Maintenance for High Performance Buildings on June 6, 2013.
Experts Sarah Jensen of FEMP and Michelle Slovensky of the National Renewable Energy
Laboratory will offer training about engagement programs for key stakeholders – including building owners, operators, and occupants – in the design, construction, and operation of sustainable facilities.
The seminar will present best practices and techniques to:
• Begin with proven planning methods that lead to quantifiable results;
• Incorporate whole-building thinking in all phases of design, operations, and maintenance;
• Identify, select, and procure the lowest impact materials, equipment, and systems;
• Engage occupants and users in the adoption of sustainable behaviors and procedures; and
• Measure, monitor, and verify whole-building performance to meet your reporting requirements.
This 90-minute training session is free to attend. Advance registration is required to obtain a link to the broadcast, which will air on Thursday, June 6, 2013, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Eastern time.
FEMP First Thursday Seminars are no cost training opportunities to help Federal energy, environmental, and fleet professionals plan and execute projects to help meet Federal goals and requirements.
Speaker and Presenter Information
Michelle Slovensky is a Senior Sustainability Manager at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. With 25 years of interdisciplinary experience, she provides strategic leadership and technical expertise for sustainable building and site design, on-site renewable energy integration, establishing, measuring, and monitoring performance metrics, and developing policies for the efficient use of energy, water, and material resources. She received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design, and a master’s degree in landscape architecture and ecology from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Sarah Jensen serves as FEMP’s Technical Lead for Sustainability, where she works to help agencies identify and implement sustainable building strategies. Sarah also co-chairs the Interagency Sustainability Working Group (ISWG) with GSA. She previously served as deputy director and environmental counsel for the Green the Capitol Office for the U.S. House of Representatives. She received a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from James Madison University and a juris doctorate degree in energy, environment, and natural resources law from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College.Relevant Government Agencies
