About FAA

The Federal Aviation Administration’s mission is to promote aviation safety and mobility by building, maintaining, and operating the Nation’s air traffic control system; overseeing commercial and general aviation safety through regulation and inspection; and providing support to improve the capacity and safety of our airports.

The FAA invests in excess of $2.5 billion annually on information systems and information technology (IT) services, representing the largest cost category in the agency’s budget after personnel. Currently, the agency is acquiring, developing, and/or operating more than 400 information services and information systems, which enable the organization to carry out virtually all business functions. The CIO organization, in partnership with the other business units, is committed to promoting and facilitating the optimization of IT resources and exercising solid stewardship of the agency’s IT enterprise.

About FAA MMAC
As the largest concentration of DOT employees outside the Washington DC area, FAA Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center (MMAC) serves as a vital support facility for FAA and DOT. Activities at the Aeronautical Center include certification, logistics, service, engineering, research, standards and training.

FAA MMAC is best known for the FAA Aeronautical Center Academy, which provides technical and managerial training and development for the FAA workforce and the aviation community. Notably, the Academy trains new air traffic controllers. The Aeronautical Center also houses the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute, which is involved in such diverse aviation matters as drop-down oxygen masks, emergency lighting, water evacuation plans and crash tests; the FAA Logistics Center, which offers repair and technical support for air traffic control equipment and aircraft for the U.S. and 44 other countries; the Transportation Safety Institute, which examines aviation safety; and the Civil Aviation Registry, which records every privately owned U.S. plane and licensed pilot.
