FEMP Webcast August 1, 2013:

Goal-Based Contracting for Energy Efficient Buildings

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) will host a live First Thursday Seminar webcast on Goal-based Contracting for Energy Efficient Buildings on August 1, 2013.

Experts Paul Torcellini of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Jason Koman of

DOE’s Building Technologies Office will cover ways to structure and implement goal-based contracts that achieve high-performance buildings with low energy profiles. Learn how upfront contract provisions can lead to measurable performance benchmarks in building construction and operations.

Discover techniques that result in:

  • innovation by design teams and contractors to incorporate energy efficiency as part of the design/construction process
  • owners who are focused on project management, rather than solving design/construction problems
  • minimal additional cost to achieve significant energy savings (in the range of 50% reduction)
  • strong communications between owners, design teams, and contractors
  • best practices, examples, and lessons learned from successful projects

This 90-minute training session is free to attend. Advance registration is required to obtain a link to the broadcast, which will air on Thursday, August 1 , 2013, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Eastern time.

Register to attend.

FEMP First Thursday Seminars are no cost training opportunities to help Federal energy, environmental, and fleet professionals plan and execute projects to help meet Federal goals and requirements.

Speaker and Presenter Information

Paul Torcellini is the Principal Group Manager for Commercial Buildings Research at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, with extensive experience using next-generation computer simulations to design very low-energy buildings. He is currently on assignment to the Building Technology Office at DOE. An adjunct faculty member at Colorado School of Mines and Denver University, he received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a master’s degree and doctorate degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. Jason Koman is a Technology Program Specialist in DOE’s Building Technology Office. Previously he served as director of the Purchasing Alliance at the Clinton Foundation, and principal of Koman Associates, an energy and environment consulting firm. He received a bachelor’s degree in international politics and human rights from Trinity College, and a master’s degree in public policy, energy, and environment from the University of California, Berkeley.
