Veterans in the Valley Workshop

Veterans in the Valley Workshop – Application due by August 2, 2013

Menlo Park, CA

October 25-26, 2013

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and The COMMIT Foundation are teaming up to provide 12 high-potential transitioning military veterans exclusive access to a16z’s extensive network of technology leaders.  During a two-day workshop, participating veterans with a demonstrated interest in the software and Internet technology sector will work with industry mentors to establish clear career goals and strategies for a successful transition.

COMMIT & a16z believe in the power of mentorship and know that just one story from an inspirational leader can be life changing.  We believe the first step for a veteran to identify his or her desired career path is to better understand the values and ideals that shape who they are, beyond the Military.  This workshop will provide vets an opportunity to explore these topics with their mentor, with the goal of:

  • Expanding their imagination about possible career paths;
  • Building confidence about transitioning to a new industry;
  • Increasing self-awareness about core values and desired career outcomes;
  • Providing information about and access to key players in the software and Internet technology sector.

About Andreessen Horowitz

Andreessen Horowitz is a venture capital firm that backs bold entrepreneurs who move fast, think big and are committed to building the next major franchises in technology. Founded by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, we provide entrepreneurs with access to our deep expertise and insights in innovation, business development, market intelligence, executive and technical talent, and marketing. We see obvious parallels between the skill sets of military veterans and talent-hungry companies in Silicon Valley—leadership, decision-making under pressure, courage and integrity, to name a few.  We’re working to bridge this gap by building long-term relationships with veteran talent and connecting them with our network.

About The COMMIT Foundation

The COMMIT Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization with the mission of creating serendipity for veterans by fostering mentorship, extending and growing professional networks, promoting familiar camaraderie, and setting the stage for inspiring moments.  We create solutions around individuals.  We focus on Small Touch and High Impact efforts.

COMMIT is honored to be working with Andreessen Horowitz.  Both organizations’ focus on quality and impact make the partnership a natural fit.
