Veteran’s Hiring Authorities, Employment Programs, & Resources

Mandatory Training for Federal Human Resource Personnel

Presidential Executive Order 13518, Employment of Veterans in the Federal Government requires annual training for agency human resources personnel and hiring managers concerning veterans’ employment, including training on veterans’ preferences and special authorities for the hiring of veterans.  Presented by OPM, DOI & the CFEB, training will include sessions on why veterans should be hired, trusts and myths about veterans’ preference, special hiring authorities for veterans, Schedule A hiring authorities, USERRA, and provide numerous resources.

The agenda is divided into two components. The morning session will focus on why hire a vet, veterans preference, special hiring authorities and USERRA for all HR professionals, all of the information necessary to comply with the mandatory annual training.  The afternoon session will focus on establishing a network of Veteran support organizations and what resources they provide. The afternoon will provide valuable information for agency Veteran Representatives or senior staffing specialists to take back to their organizations; however, all are welcome to attend.
