25th Annual Controversies in Cardiac Arrhythmias

This event qualifies for 7 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits

This one-day program is designed to provide clinicians with a review of selected topics in present day management of patients with cardiac arrhythmias, emphasizing new advances in the field and incorporating current guidelines and evidence-based principles of practice. The format will incorporate didactic lectures as well as case management studies and panel discussions with experts in the field.

Learning Objectives

  • Compare and contrast the risks and benefits of oral anticoagulation therapy vs. left atrial appendage (LAA) for the treatment of atrial fibrillation

  • Compare and contrast the risks and benefits of warfarin vs. newer anticoagulants, and apply appropriate patient selection criteria for the treatment of patients with atrial fibrillation

  • Assess evidence-based clinical studies defining the role of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) for patients with persistent congestive heart failure (CHF)

  • Evaluate the pre-market and newly approved cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) available and select the most appropriate therapy for managing patients with cardiac arrhythmias

  • Recognize that the new generation of subcutaneous ICD may allow defibrillator therapy in patients who have a contraindication to vascular or intra-cardiac devices and select the most appropriate therapy for managing patients with cardiac arrhythmias.

  • Recognize that the new generation of pacemakers will allow for insertion, as well as removal, of a wholly contained pacemaker placed within the heart, avoiding subcutaneous or intravascular hardware while maintaining full pacemaker functionality.
