Government Analytics Breakfast (GAB) Forum

On October 13th, REI Systems and Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Advanced Governmental Studies will host a Government Analytics Breakfast (GAB) Forum at the Johns Hopkins Washington D.C. Center. We are bringing together professionals from government, academia, and the corporate community to discuss how government analytics can enable real-world successes and support learning of critical lessons from actual experience.

At this session, you will hear from Dr. Vanessa Perez, Lecturer for the MS program in Government Analytics at Johns Hopkins University. Her presentation will explore how the 2016 election candidates use—and don’t use—data to drive their campaigns.

Speaker and Presenter Information

Dr. Vanessa Perez teaches in the Government Analytics program at Johns Hopkins University. She has professional experience in the voting rights nonprofit sector and in public opinion polling with the national news media. With a specialization on campaigns and elections, voting behavior, and methodology, her current project draws on the parallels between contemporary and historical elections to test the impact of strict electoral institutions and political competition on turnout with new data and methods.

As a former Senior Policy Analyst at Project Vote—a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization—Dr. Perez has authored numerous reports, including: Representational Bias in the 2012 Electorate (2015); Political Participation of LGBT Americans (2014); and Americans with Photo ID: A Breakdown of Demographic Characteristics (2015).

Dr. Perez holds a B.A., M.Phil, and PhD in Political Science from Columbia University.
