Creating Equity By Improving Internal Mobility

Despite decades of science demonstrating that organizations with more diverse leadership perform better, women and minorities remain grossly underrepresented in management positions across the Federal Government. Building a diverse leadership team requires building equity into every career development decision that creates great leaders, from initial branch assignments in the military to lateral assignments in the civil service. 

Internal mobility is critical to a comprehensive, successful talent management strategy - mobility that is equitable must become a top priority for all Federal agencies. 

This panel will explore steps the US military is taking toward equity, and provide Federal agencies with concrete actions to make selections for critical projects and lateral job assignments using a competency-based framework that is both fair and effective.  

OBJECTIVES

• Provide government agencies tools and strategies to make internal assignments in a manner that improves both equity and organizational performance
• Understand the science of selection and how a competency-based assessment process can accomplish DEI objectives
