In today’s digital world, IT modernization and cybersecurity are intertwined with delivering a vast range of state services to residents. According to the National Association of State CIOs, these were the top two concerns facing state governments in 2022. They are two reasons why the state of Florida in 2020 created the Florida Digital Service (FDS), to partner with all state agencies to deliver services.

In a state that often faces natural disasters such as hurricanes and flooding, recovery depends on fast, secure IT resources to match manpower and machinery to locations most in need, while disaster victims seek fast, secure assistance. The FDS worked with the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) in November to provide free public wi-fi access in affected counties following Hurricane Ian, for instance.

Join us at this three-session in-person event in Tallahassee as state and local IT officials and corporate thought leaders discuss the steps agencies are taking to improve and innovate their services, protect their customers and agencies, and outline their priorities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the technology goals and challenges the state is looking to address.
  • Outline the role of the FDS and how it partners with all agencies, which are organized into six verticals, including government operations, healthcare, public safety and the law, environment, education, and economic growth.
  • Delineate the cybersecurity measures being undertaken by the FDS and partner agencies such as FDEM.
  • Review the scope of technology modernization projects and programs now under way.

3:00 PM – Combating Cyber Threats in Government
Federal, state, and local agencies stand together in the fight to prevent and recover from cyberattacks, as their communities increasingly become targets of hackers and other cyber criminals. Cybersecurity risks range from data exploitation; insider threats; third-party practices as outsourcing increases; ransomware; identity theft; and fraudulent access to state government services.

>>> This panel will explore how agencies are tackling cyber threats to ensure that citizens’ personal information and critical infrastructure are adequately protected, recoverable, and secured in the event of a breach.
