The push for digital modernization by government at all levels has been under way for several years now. State and local governments had to scramble during the pandemic to find ways to support employees working remotely, adding momentum to the modernization push.
Despite the need, IT budgets haven’t kept up – from staffing issues to costly legacy infrastructure, state and local agencies are struggling to find ways to maximize the value of what they have. Pruning legacy IT can free up scarce funding and human resources, but the agencies have to find ways to replace their capabilities. Moving to cloud computing, combined with hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), is one such approach. A number of K-12 schools have been early adopters of HCI for their data centers, for instance, because of its simplicity and affordability.
