In 2022, the Department of Defense created a cross-functional team to accelerate the adoption of 5G and future-generation wireless networking technologies, laying the foundation for new opportunities to implement innovative solutions to military needs.

The potential is there for 5G (and beyond) to remake the integration and interoperability of the different DoD domains – air, land, sea, space, and cyber – as envisioned in DoD’s Joint All-Domain Command and Control Strategy, also unveiled last year. But it also has value far away from the battlespace, such as 5G efficiencies in supply chain and warehouse logistics and support for open standards while maintaining secure networks.

Review the progress of 5G initiatives in areas such as inventory management, asset tracking, and delivery optimization
Identify the channels that 5G opens to use of commercial technologies
Delineate the role of AI, automation and cloud-native technologies to reduce the cost and complexity of network deployment and operation
