Federal departments and agencies are making headway in meeting the requirements of Executive Order 14028, issued in May 2021, to strengthen their cybersecurity by implementing a zero trust architecture. To date, many agencies have made progress in areas like identity management and secure access.

But the journey toward achieving a zero trust environment is different for every department. The challenges that civilian agencies must overcome are different than those facing the Department of Defense, for instance, while the components of the Department of Homeland Security often must balance their security requirements against their law enforcement or emergency services missions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the metrics these speakers have found useful in tracking their progress toward elements of zero trust
  • Delineate the way that utilizing an outcome-based approach to achieving zero trust goals is improving vendors’ ability to propose innovative solutions
  • Review the challenges posed by specialized use cases, such as zero trust at the tactical edge and the rapid spread of remote work during the pandemic
  • Evaluate Security-as-a-Service models being used to achieve zero trust milestones
