DoD moves meetings online, but IT systems can’t keep pace

As budget cuts take their toll on in-person conferences within the Defense Department, more meetings are shifting online, specifically to DoD's in-house Web conferencing service, Defense Connect Online.

The system has seen so much traffic recently that usage is starting to outstrip the system's capacity. And DCO may be about to see even more users. The Defense Information Systems Agency and the contractor that runs DCO have just released an app that lets defense employees host or log into meetings from their iPhones and iPads.

AFCEA WEST- A True Value Added!

I just got back from my annual pilgrimage to San Diego where I hang out with all my favorite defense contractors to learn all-things-Navy and all-things-SPAWAR (West). As usual, it was an extremely productive trip where I was able to bundle multiple meetings into a short time because EVERYONE I knew was there! Despite concerns about the travel restrictions that DoD faces, AFCEA was able to pull off a meaningful event full of informative sessions.

DON IT Conference Cancelled

In response to DoD and DON guidance, the DON IT Conference, West Coast 2013 has been cancelled. The conference was scheduled for Jan. 28-30, 2013, at the San Diego Convention Center. Please cancel all travel and lodging reservations as soon as possible.

The AFCEA West Conference, scheduled for Jan. 29-31, 2013, at the San Diego Convention Center will still take place. ...

Several senior DoD and DON leaders are scheduled to appear as speakers and panel participants. Local commands are encouraged to attend when no travel costs will be incurred.
