Veteran Entrepreneur Training Symposium (VETS) Returning to Reno for Third Consecutive Year

Growing Veteran Small Business in the Federal Marketplace

Washington, DC. The Veteran Entrepreneur Training Symposium (VETS) is returning to the Silver Legacy Resort Casino in Reno, Nevada, June 10-13, 2013, for a third time.

Bringing together Federal agencies, prime contractors, and Veteran business owners, VETS helps companies understand and utilize Veteran-owned small business contracting opportunities provided by the Federal government. "VETS is crafted by Veterans already doing business with the Federal government--Veteran Entrepreneurs who have walked in your shoes", says Scott Denniston, Executive Director of the National Veteran Small Business Coalition (NVSBC), the host organization for VETS.

At VETS2013, attendees will gain the knowledge and relationships necessary to take advantage of the Federally mandated contract opportunities set aside specifically for Veteran-owned small businesses. The event will assemble over 500 attendees in classroom discussions, a lively exhibit hall, networking events, and one-on-one business development sessions.

"This is the first conference I've supported where the core objective is to educate and train entrepreneurs and small business owners...The most effective and advantageous Veteran's event I've been privileged to support", emphasizes two-time VETS speaker Joshua Frank, Principal of RSM Federal.

A doctor at the National Institutes of Health who helped pioneer the use of a drug to combat the transmission of HIV from infected pregnant women to their babies has been named federal employee of the year by a nonprofit group.

Lynne Mofenson, a pediatric infectious disease specialist, will be honored at a black-tie event Thursday in Washington for her work in the late 1980s and 1990s to prevent mother-to-child transmission of AIDS. At that time, there was little that could be done to prevent such infection; today the number of HIV cases found in U.S. children has dropped to less than 150 per year.

Ten more cities will get non-standard travel reimbursement rates

Originally posted by Kedar Pavgi on GovExec

The General Services Administration has decided to designate 10 additional cities as "nonstandard" areas for travel reimbursement rates, according to an announcement posted in the Federal Register on September 5.

The designation means the regions -- frequently traveled by government employees -- will get unique per diem rates rather than being lumped together with the rest of the country. The reimbursement levels will be determined by the average daily industry rate. In August, GSA announced it was freezing fiscal 2013 per diems at fiscal 2012 levels.
